Ylem (3 Eggs Ago)
Ylem (3 Eggs Ago) displays magical realism in a work created for Throwdown Collective by Montreal choreographer Lina Cruz: “In a marble sphere, as white as milk, dwells a cosmic egg, fragile as silk: ‘You can make an omelette from an egg but you can’t make an egg from an omelette…’ ”
Winner of the 2016 Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Original Choreography and nominated for Outstanding Lighting Design, Sound Score and Male Performance, Various Concert is a highly attuned dance of unsettled interdependency that sculpts space and time in a constantly shifting dynamic of action and reaction.
Attempting to perform incredible feats of stunt car driving, the three performers are stopped short when their car fails to start. 1981FM rewinds time back to 1981, complete with a soundtrack of hits from the time, vintage Chevrolet Chevette, and authentic costumes. With their signature athleticism and humour the three daredevils perform in, around, and on top of their tireless Chevette.
Set to the infectious beats of Kid Koala, Parov Stellar and Amon Tobin, Boxset is an athletic dance for three performers and four wooden boxes that provide a dynamic moving structure for the dancers. Clad in blue overalls, the performers climb up, propel from, and slide down their three giant props, continuously shifting them into surprising geometric configurations.
One Couch (2009)
Called "a manic sequence of skillfully timed encounters" by the Vancouver Sun (2010), and "high energy fun all the way" by Michael Crabb (CBC Radio, 2009); One Couch follows three individuals who find themselves in the confined area of a small loveseat made for two. As they work together to negotiate life in their close quarters, the trio reinvents their common space, turning, shifting, and transforming the couch into a world in which the three learn to coexist.
