Founded in 2008, Toronto based Throwdown Collective is a contemporary dance company that supports the collaborative creative pursuits of founders Zhenya Cerneacov, Mairéad Filgate and Brodie Stevenson. Creating both site-specific and stage work, the collective have created three site-specific commissions for Dusk Dances: One Couch (2009), Boxset (2011), and 1981FM (2013); all of which went on to tour with the festival and beyond, throughout Ontario, to Trois-Rivières, Quebec; & Vancouver, British Columbia.
Recently their work, Various Concert received the Dora Mavor Moore Award (2016) for Outstanding Choreography, and the Audience Choice Award at the dance: made in canada/fait au canada Festival (2015). The work also received Dora nominations for Outstanding Lighting Design/Arun Srinivasan, Outstanding Sound Design/Joshua van Tassel, and Outstanding Male Performance/Brodie Stevenson.
Boxset 3D and Frames, two short 3-D dance films created in collaboration with Emmanuel Albano, have been screened at film festivals across the globe.
Currently Throwdown Collective is developing a new commission with Montreal’s Lina Cruz that will premiere as a part of DanceWorks in February 2017.
